Aim of the Course
The scientific evaluation of healthcare as a whole and individual healthcare services and technologies is a fundamental element of policy and funding decisions in healthcare systems. This course aims to introduce the basic concepts and methods of evidence-based healthcare evaluation through relevant steps from evidence synthesis to outcome, cost, cost-effectiveness and efficiency evaluations both in theory and in practice using applied
examples and practical exercises.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be familiar with concepts and methods of
evidence-based health technology and healthcare system evaluations including:
  •  Literature review, synthesis and meta-analysis
  • Critical study appraisal
  • Methods for economic evaluation (outcome, cost, cost-effectiveness)
  • Healthcare system performance assessment

Structure of the Course

Day 1 / 12:00 – 17:30 and Networking Dinner at 19:00

  • Module 1: Introduction
  • Module 2: Healthcare system performance assessment

Day 2 / 09:00 – 18:00

  • Module 3: Evidence synthesis
  • Module 4: Outcome evaluation

Day 3 / 09:00 – 13:00

  • Module 5: Cost evaluation
  • Module 6: Cost-effectiveness evaluation
    13:00 – 14:00
  • Exam Module 7: Exam (optional for ECTS accreditation)
