First ATHEA Conference

The breadth of health economics
Vienna, 28th of November 2014

The Austrian Health Economics Association (ATHEA) was founded in 2013. With its first conference, ATHEA wants to present itself to a broader public. With „The breadth of health economics“, the conference’s title signals its function as a first exhibition of research done on both theoretical as well as policy-oriented issues in the economics of health and long-term care systems. This Call for Abstracts addresses interested researchers from Austria as well as from its neighbouring countries.

It gives us great pleasure to announce two renowned key note speakers:

  • Andrew Street (University of York, UK)
  • Adelina Comas-Herrera (London School of Economics, PSSRU, UK)

Andrew Street is Professor of Health Economics at the University of York and Director of the Health Policy Team in the Centre for Health Economics as well as Director of the Economics of the Social and Health Care Research Unit (ESHCRU). His research covers measurement of health system productivity, evaluation of activity based funding mechanisms, analysis of organisational efficiency, and critical appraisal of health policy.

Adelina Comas-Herrera is Research Fellow at the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her research is focussed on investigating the determinants of future long-term care expenditure, in particular dementia and chronic conditions, both for the UK and for other European countries. She developed a methodology for internationally comparable long-term care expenditure projections used by the European Commission (DG ECFIN).

A panel discussion of Austrian stakeholders and the two key note speakers will be held on the evening before the conference.
